Xylokastro (Greek:, Modern: Ξυλόκαστρο, Ancient: Xylokastron, Ξυλόκαστρον derived from Solo Castro as the area was designated on old maps De Wit, 1680) is a city that is 40 km W of Corinth via GR-8, which is also E65. Its interchange is about 1.5 km W, west of the river. The population is around 11,000 and there is a nearby interchange southwest of the city. Its 2001 population was 5,618 for the village and 15,273 for the municipal district. The city has a river named Sythas to its west and a mountain to its south and southwest.

About Xylokastro
The town offers a beautiful beach. Agriculture surrounds the town. The town was known as Viladusa by the Venetians in the mid to late 2nd millennium. The community has a school, a church, a police station, a post office, banks, a volleyball arena, and a square (plateia). It is famous as a seaside tourist spot and are well equipped with a number of hotels. Its nearest communications tower is on a mountain southwest of town (about 6 km). A medium earthquake rumbled the town and some of its surroundings a few kilometres into the sea on Friday October 24, 2008 and measured 4.5 on the Richter scale.
Geography
Its geography varies from farmlands within the coastline and parts of the south, forests in the southeast and mostly grassy to the southwest.
