A. Would you believe that they didn't? Jinnah actually only wanted greater autonomy for the Muslim majority provinces in Pakistan... he did not want to partition India into two separate countries because he feared that would only weaken the Muslim nation as they would be unable to benefit from the economic and political strength of a united India. What ended up happening was that the British and the Hindu Indians realized that if they met Jinnah's demands, then they would no longer be able to run India as they pleased, since the Muslims would in essence be governing themselves. So the best solution in their eyes was to cut up the country, get rid of the economically and politcally weaker parts (the Muslim majority parts) and focus on… [cont.]

A. During the 1800's, India became Britain's most important colonial territory. India provided Britain with cheap raw materials, particularly cotton, for developing industries, as well as a large market for Britain's manufactured goods. Many Indians want independence from British rule, and a chance to build up industry and wealth in India itself. Ins 1885, the Indian National Congress was founded. At first this political party worked for moderate reform, but after 1917 it became more extreme, campaigning for home rule. During World War I, many Indian troops fought bravely for the Allies. In return, Indians expected more participation on their own government. The first government of India Act in 1919 made some reforms, but British… [cont.]

The independance movement, on the other hand, not only includes congress, but engulfs all regional parties or organisations irrespective of moderatists or extremists/anarchists and their activities...in short everything that have happened related to Indian politics between 1857 - 1947...

Consequent to the failure of the Revolt of 1857 rebellion, one also saw the end of the East India Company's rule in India and many important changes took place in the British Government's policy towards India which sought to strengthen the British rule through winning over the Indian princes, the chiefs and the landlords. Queen Victoria's Proclamation of November 1, 1858 declared that thereafter India would be governed by and in the name of the British Monarch through a Secretary of State. The Governor General was given title of Viceroy, which meant the representative of the Monarch. As extra help i'll give u some tips about the essay & others: essay - practice writing lots of essays (time yourself 20 min every time), n get a grammar master to check your work. Questions of the essays are all philosophical and pro/con (meaning more like, "Do you think TV isolates people or unites them?" rather than "How does TV affect people nowadays?" or "What's the current economic situation of the U.S.?") In the essays they will see HOW you answered (how strong/persuasive/profess ional/etc. the essay is). So in a way, you will need to know at least some BASIC knowledge in - usually - history n literature (famous bks will help alot). Just memorize some… [cont.]

Q: The idea of separating two halves of one nation (E & W Pakistan) by another (India) was a recipe for future instability and continuing animosity in the subcontinent.
