A. There really is no one answer to this. You should talk to the wedding manager at the hotel itself. There are 4-6 things to consider for the reception alone: Reception Venue & Rentals Food & Service Beverages & Bartenders Cake(s) & Cutting Fee Music (you can arrange on your own) Flowers (you can arrange on your own) Plus count on 1-2 or more nights accommodation for selected people of the wedding party and out of town guests. Include pre/post-wedding 'pampering' at the hotel. This is of course all aside from the other wedding costs of attire, rings, ceremony, photography, etc. Hope this helps you!

Allerton Hotel in Chicago? Weather in November?
Q. I am planning a getaway to Chicago this coming month, November 2009. I have been looking at the Allerton Hotel in Chicago. Has anybody stayed at this hotel? What can you tell me about it? I would like to see some pictures of it. And also what about the weather in November? Besides it being really cold. What else can I expect? Thank you!

A. The Allerton has a history with a few notable points: the Tip Top Tap changed names to the Cloud Room. It is now the fitness center and a ballroom. Some recent reviews: The Tip Top Tap and Cloud Room were famous gathering places. They are gone and food is now served far below on the 2nd floor...but only breakfast and lunch. Go elsewhere for dinner. Nov. weather is almost unpredictable. Boaters have water-skied on Thanksgiving but normally it will be cold and wet. be prepared for snow, rain or a combination...snain. Temps between 30F and 45F.

A. You'd probably have to take a cab, although they do have those new taxi van things, which should be outside the train station. If there isn't one, have one of the other cab drivers see if they can call for one from their company. They should be able to accomodate all that...

Chicago hotel: Allerton vs. Seneca?
Q. I got two decent deals on hotel rooms. I'm not sure which to get. Seneca is $109 for a 1-King sized bed apartment-style room. Allerton is charging $144 for a standard room. I'm not sure which hotel is nicer since I've never been to either. Has anyone been to these hotels? It's only one night, so the whole kitchen deal isn't important. So. Seneca? Or Allerton? Both are located in great areas... they're a hop and a skip away from each other.

A. I have been to the Allerton. It's just fine, great location, but rooms are kinda small.

how to get from O'Hare Airport to 700 N Michigan Ave in Chicago using the L?
Q. I'm flying into Chicago on Fri night, and I need to use the L to get from O'Hare to the Allerton Hotel (701 N Michigan Ave.) From what I can gather from the online CTA maps, I need to start out taking the Blue line, but I can't tell how close it will actually get me to my hotel, and/or if I need to transfer to another line in order to not have to walk too far with my luggage. Okay, so... thanks for the first 2 answers, but my friend switched hotels on me, so it is now the Affinia (166 E. Superior.) I noticed that it is still the Blue Line to Chicago Station, but it seems closer than the last hotel, so I'm wondering how far of a walk or a cab ride it would be from the station to the new hotel?

A. If you have a lot of luggage and don't feel like climbing stairs with it, then I would suggest taking the Blue Line to Clark/Lake and taking a cab from there. The Clark/Lake station has elevators and escalators while the Chicago station on the Blue Line does not. If you want to take the train most of the way there, then take the Blue Line to Jackson and transfer to a northbound Red Line train (to Howard). Get off at Chicago (this is a different station from Chicago on the Blue Line and this station has an elevator) and walk three blocks east and two blocks south. Your hotel is on the northeast corner of Michigan and Huron. Check for CTA information.
